Automatic student sync

Would stop the need to be creating spreadsheets at each data point containing information about the students.

What problem are you trying to solve?

Replace the need to create spreadsheet uploads of the students at each data point with a data syncronisation system.

I do agree there would always need some manual processes, but the idea should be to limit workload for staff, to concentrate on quality assuring the data. The 30 minutes spent updating students, baseline, EAPs and grades each time you collect should be an easier process. It is with all other systems, and SISRA should be leading on this.

With regards to staff initials/codes for classes, nearly all users I know do this manually (either through excel concatenates or manually), so again, this is why the data should sync through. Again, if it's a split class or different main teacher, it would still be quicker to change limited anonolies, or quality assure the MIS data, rahter than maunally having to update each data collection (I find the task quite quick, but sometimes have to update multiple schools in one go).

As for students, the enrollment status is something that needs to be addressed in SISRA. To simply have 'On Roll' or 'Guest' is far too simplistic, and whilst you can use filters to get to the DfE approved cohort, users must apply this each time. SISRA is highly accurate, but this is an area which needs to be reviewed (I have raised this as: https://junipereducation.ideas.aha.io/ideas/ANA-I-131)

As I've mentioned before, keeping the current routines should be an option, especially if new routines come into play, however, after having to help train multiple people on SISRA, it's one of the first questions that gets asked, and I can't defend this, given that all our other systems have taken this issue away years ago.

    Here are my reasons

For analysis purposes, I actually like having control over the class and subjects.

We have students off site, who whilst on roll, aren't in a class in our MIS. Then we have students who are in a class in the MIS, but the class teacher never sees them. I move these into another class for analysis purposes. And the occasional student who say is timetabled to do Art but quietly works on Photography. Then we have guest students (arrive after the January Census), managed move students, and students about to go on managed moves, or taken off roll.

Disadvantage students - our MIS calculates this on the fly - and doesn't do so using the same rules as the DfE use for inclusion for the KS4 performance tables. I've ended up creating my own user defined field in our MIS.

Teachers - I also name each class with the main teacher(s) responsible as a suffix. This is another thing that doesn't come across helpfully from the MIS as a main teacher is often 'picked' that isn't actually the main teacher etc etc. In addition our Triple Science is timetabled within Double Science - so again you can't tell whose teaching which science.

We have moved over to Arbor MIS, which calculates all sorts of things. It's very clever, but or all the reasons stated above, it's made me appreciate the flexibility offered by SISRA.

It would make life so much easier to sync with our MIS. Would be great if it synched all information normally imported when uploading student data. Then we only need to concentrate on the data.

SISRA can please update this, it's been six months.

This is a very basic routine and all users would benefit from it.

Just agree the default fields (maybe run a poll on SISRA Community), and then allow users to update additional fields, or not, would be preferable to update the students. All your competitors do, so I do not understand why this has not been implemented.

Also, consider freezing the cohorts, so the historical data doesn't change each time you publish students. Less essential but maybe a way around this?

This would be very useful indeed, in the same way that FFT syncs to our MIS and pulls all manner of student data through.

Quite right - all the data links between SISRA and MIS systems should be automated

Please connect with a third party program (you know, the one that begins with 'Won' and end is 'de').

    I can't believe it's 2022 and it's still a manual process.
